Understand Scheduling
Scheduling Using CPM
In this chapter, you will see:
How to calculate activities with the help of the critical path method (CPM)
How activities can be defined and synchronized
How intervals between activities can be defined based on distance
Links between activities can be shown within a view or can be entered in the object properties of an activity. Links can also be created between activities in different subprojects.
Links are always created from a predecessor activity to a successor activity.
When you select an activity, link symbols appear at the beginning and end of the activity.
To draw a link, see the Linking Activities help topic.
You can create all link-type associations according to the CPM reschedule technique. (Finish-Start, Start-Start, End-End and Start-End)
Lags between two activities can be entered through the link. A lag can also be entered as a negative value or calculated by distance conditions.
Activities can also be determined by constraints (defined start or end dates).
As soon as links have been created between two activities, the activity can be calculated. The following rules apply:
Activities without links are not considered in calculations; they are treated as activities with a start constraint.
Activities without an incoming link remain at the entered start date.
Activities with incoming links are moved to the earliest possible start according to the reschedule.
The calculation checks the entered project borders, start and end of the subproject, and constraint types and then produces an error report.
Reschedule by pressing F9 on your keyboard or clicking the Reschedule icon on the toolbar.
